Top Bars in Las Vegas: Where to Drink Like a Local

Alcohol consumption is almost commonplace in Las Vegas; you can find drinks just about everywhere and at nearly any hour.
Select from luxurious lounges at casino-resorts along the Strip, trendy dive bars favored by hipsters, Prohibition-era style speakeasies, or retro Tiki bars. Unlike Las Vegas’ renowned nightclub district which draws significant attention, the local bar scene tends to be more subdued, particularly when exploring downtown areas. However, keep in mind that top venues on the Strip may require reservations (dress code applies as well).

The Strip
The Chandelier
Entering this elegant cocktail bar feels akin to walking into an extravagant chandelier. Adorned with crystals and stretching across three floors in the heart of the establishment, The Cosmopolitan The Chandelier serves as an ideal spot for enjoying a cocktail prior to attending a performance or unwinding with sophistication late into the night. This venue features three distinct tiers, each with its own ambiance: the ground floor provides lively musical entertainment, the mid-level caters exclusively to intimate gatherings, and the top tier functions as a classic cocktail bar. Stepping inside The Chandelier feels akin to venturing through the looking glass from Lewis Carroll's tale. Consequently, it seems only apt that one of their signature drinks takes inspiration from "Alice in Wonderland": titled "We're All Mad Here," this gin-infused concoction initially appears blue but transforms hues when thoroughly mixed.

For an elegant atmosphere and optimal views of the Bellagio’s dancing fountains across the street, it’s hard to top the new Chéri Rooftop at Paris Las Vegas. Sheltered by the structure of Vegas’ very own Eiffel Tower, the leafy open-air terrace bar is inspired by the look and feel of a midcentury Parisian garden party. Graze on caviar or steak tartare while sipping champagne and taking in the spectacle on the Strip below, which is especially dazzling after dark. It’s also a fabulous spot for a boozy weekend brunch complete with crème brulée French toast and mimosas.

Its interior boasts delightfully tacky retro décor, complemented by a similarly themed drinks menu where classics like the Blue Hawaiian—featuring Curaçao and pineapple—and the famous Scorpion Bowl—a potent rum concoction—are perennial favorites. Nestle into one of the colorful, curved booths under the neon lights and enjoy the ambiance provided by faux fireplaces late at night. There’s also great entertainment value simply from observing fellow patrons.

Atomic Liquors
The dazzling retro neon lights outside serve as your initial hint: Atomic Liquors stands out as Las Vegas' longest-standing standalone bar. Its moniker draws inspiration from the neighboring Nevada Test Site for atomic weapons, which was actively operational when the establishment opened its doors back in 1952. Over the years, this Downtown watering hole has drawn locals—and the odd star seeking respite from the glitz of the Strip—where they can enjoy a peaceful beverage without facing requests for signatures. It’s said that during her prime, Barbara Streisand frequented the spot regularly, along with members of the Rat Pack. Following the departure of the founders, the venue underwent restoration efforts yet managed to preserve its quintessential Mid-Century allure. Today, patrons can savor a fine selection of craft beers alongside the signature 'Atomic Cocktail,' known for its special touch.
