ABC Apologizes After Claudia Long Fabricates False Claims About Two High-Profile Politicians

The ABC has offered a humble apology following an erroneous accusation made by one of its reporters who falsely implicated two Nationals MPs for neglecting their constituencies during critical times when people are facing life-threatening situations. Claudia Long, the political correspondent for the national broadcaster, stated on "Insiders" last Sunday that National Party members of parliament were absent from their constituencies when the decision was made to dissolve the Coalition. "I believe another crucial aspect for regional areas is having a local representative present during times of crisis, such as floods where lives are lost—this situation occurred earlier this week," she explained to the show. Long particularly mentioned two individuals who perished in the flooding waters within Alison Penfold's potential electorate of Lyne on the Mid-North Coast. Additionally, he pointed out another fatality in Pat Conaghan’s constituency of Cowper, where...

Bhambri Poised to Claim India's Top Doubles Spot After Triumph Over Bopanna at Miami Open

Florida [USA], March 23 (ANI): Tennis stalwart Yuki Bhambri is poised to become India’s leading doubles player after defeating Rohan Bopanna at the Miami Open in Florida on Sunday.

Following the ATP doubles rankings update after the conclusion of the Miami Open, the 32-year-old Bhambri will claim the top spot, according to Olympics.com.

Bhambri and his Portugal partner Nuno Borges defeated Bopanna and Ivan Dodig of Croatia 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 in the round of 32 match.

The duo from India and Portugal will be up against Adam Pavlasek from Czechia and Jamie Murray from the UK in the round of 16.

The victory on Sunday saw Yuki move up to number 29 in the live ATP doubles rankings while Bopanna slid down to 43.

Bopanna, a two-time Grand Slam victor and holder of 26 tour-level trophies, entered the Miami Open as the reigning champion, alongside Matthew Ebden who he won the title with the previous year.

The 45-year-old Bopanna had been India's number-one doubles player since October 2019, with Bhambri bringing the 286-week reign to an end.

Bhambri has been performing exceptionally well lately, having won his inaugural ATP 500 title just this month at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025 in partnership with Australian player Alexei Popyrin.

In the final, Bhambri and Popyrin staged a comeback victory, defeating current US Open and Australian Open doubles titlists Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten with scores of 3-6, 7-6(12), 10-8.

Last month, Bhambri and Ivan eliminated top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic at the Qatar Open.

In 2009, Bhambri won the junior boys title at the Australian Open. At one point, he also held the position of No. 1 in singles for India. Bhambri managed to break into the top 100 in men’s singles on two occasions, reaching his highest rank of 83rd place in April 2018. However, in 2023, he chose to focus more on doubles instead.

In addition to his recent victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Bhambri has also won three ATP titles at the 250 level. (ANI)
