ABC Apologizes After Claudia Long Fabricates False Claims About Two High-Profile Politicians

The ABC has offered a humble apology following an erroneous accusation made by one of its reporters who falsely implicated two Nationals MPs for neglecting their constituencies during critical times when people are facing life-threatening situations. Claudia Long, the political correspondent for the national broadcaster, stated on "Insiders" last Sunday that National Party members of parliament were absent from their constituencies when the decision was made to dissolve the Coalition. "I believe another crucial aspect for regional areas is having a local representative present during times of crisis, such as floods where lives are lost—this situation occurred earlier this week," she explained to the show. Jesse Colin Young of The Youngbloods, Singer Behind the Timeless 'Get Together,' Passes Away at 83

In addition to "Get Together," Young was also recognized for "Four in theMorning," "Sunlight," and "Darkness, Darkness."

Jesse Colin Young from the iconic rock group the Youngbloods passed away at the age of 83.

A spokesperson for the guitarist verified the news of his passing on Sunday, March 16, as reported by Indonesia Today Update News.

"We share with heavy hearts the news that iconic musician Jesse Colin Young, whose distinctive influence spanned across the overlapping realms of folk, blues, jazz, country, and rock & roll, passed away at his residence in Aiken, South Carolina yesterday evening," the announcement stated.

He became renowned as the lead singer of The Youngbloods, capturing the spirit of the Woodstock era through 'GetTogether,' which gained worldwide popularity while advocating for peace and unity throughout the chaotic 1960s.

Following the 1960s, Young expanded both his audience and his artistic scope. He put out multiple solo records that combined thought-provoking lyrics addressing social issues with exceptional guitar prowess and beautiful singing.

"The statement noted that as an esteemed songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, record label proprietor, and podcast presenter—as well as a dedicated long-term advocate for social and environmental causes—he has secured a lasting position within America’s musical backdrop,” it continued, “all whilst consistently crafting contemporary music just as relevant and impactful as his compositions from the countercultural period.”

Perry Miller Young was born in 1941 in Queens, New York, as stated previously. The New York Times He pursued studies in classical guitar at the Phillips Academy located in Andover, Massachusetts. Later, he attended Ohio University where his musical preferences broadened as he resided near a record shop during his time there.

Young then transferred to New York University and became obsessed with the music scene the city had to offer, eventually leaving the school. He released two solo albums, The Soul of a City Boy and Young Blood, in 1964 and 1965, respectively.

He then met guitarist Jerry Corbitt in Cambridge, Mass. With pianist-guitarist Lowell Levinger and Joe Bauer on the drums, they formed the Youngbloods, performing at Greenwich Village's  Cafe Au Go Go.

Perhaps the song that the band was best known for was "Get Together," which was actually written by Dino Valenti under the name Chet Powers.

When Young first heard "Get Together" while rehearsing at  Cafe Au Go Go, it "stopped me in my tracks," he told NPR in 2019. " 'Love is but a song we sing / Fear's the way we die.' Wow — the human condition in two lines," he said of the lyrics.

The Youngbloods released their version in 1967 from their eponymous album, which was initially a sleeper hit. It became an international success in 1969 when it was part of a public service announcement for the National Council of Christians and Jews in 1969, per The Hollywood Reporter .

"Get Together" ultimately became the soundtrack for the end of the Woodstock era, calling for peace.

I performed it at Central Park last summer, which coincided with the one-year mark since Charlottesville. The enthusiasm among those singing was more intense than anything I had witnessed before. Several individuals were raising their fists, and it became clear they were declaring, 'We choose love.'

Following their breakup in 1972, Young delved into environmental and social causes. He went on to produce various solo records over time. Among his most recognized tracks are "Four in the Morning," "Sunlight," "Darkness, Darkness," "Quicksand," and "Peace Song."

Young's most recent album, Dreamers was released in 2019 with assistance from bassist Tristan Young, who is his son.
