ABC Apologizes After Claudia Long Fabricates False Claims About Two High-Profile Politicians

The ABC has offered a humble apology following an erroneous accusation made by one of its reporters who falsely implicated two Nationals MPs for neglecting their constituencies during critical times when people are facing life-threatening situations. Claudia Long, the political correspondent for the national broadcaster, stated on "Insiders" last Sunday that National Party members of parliament were absent from their constituencies when the decision was made to dissolve the Coalition. "I believe another crucial aspect for regional areas is having a local representative present during times of crisis, such as floods where lives are lost—this situation occurred earlier this week," she explained to the show. Long particularly mentioned two individuals who perished in the flooding waters within Alison Penfold's potential electorate of Lyne on the Mid-North Coast. China Scrutinizes Roof Tile Collapse at 650-Year-Old Drum Tower

Authorities in China have initiated an inquiry following the collapse of roofing tiles from a 650-year-old drum tower on Monday, which barely missed a group of tourists standing near the ancient structure’s exterior walls.

Videos circulating on social media captured the dramatic moment when part of the roof gave way, causing tiles to slide off within seconds.

A plume of dust ascended skyward as the startled visitors hastily retreated from the structure.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident that took place at the Fengyang Drum Tower in China’s Anhui province. CNN cited by the county's culture and tourism bureau.

The agency reported that emergency response protocols were swiftly implemented. CTV News reported.

The authorities sealed off the area and assembled an investigative group to determine the reason for the incident.

The event triggered worry on social media platforms as numerous internet users voiced their astonishment.

"That sounds terrifying. The tiles are as soft as tofu," a Weibo user commented.

Another chimed in, "Were this to occur in ancient times, numerous heads would certainly be severed."

Originally built in 1375 during the Ming Dynasty, the Fengyang Drum Tower features a raised platform and an upper structure. The base was designated a key cultural relic in Anhui in 1989.

The initial structure was partially ruined during the Qing Dynasty in 1853 and was subsequently rebuilt in 1995.

According to the bureau, the tower had shown signs of deterioration, with roof tiles and eaves sustaining damage since 2017.

A restoration project was launched in February 2023, with construction taking place from September 2023 to March 2024.
